Wolverhampton Wanderers have offered Rodrigo Fernandes a four-year deal at Molineux as he closes in on a £10.6 million departure from Sporting Lisbon, according to The Mirror (4 June, page 56).

It’s fair to say you’d have got short odds on Wolves’ first signing of the summer being a player represented by none other than Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese super-agent has been pulling the strings behind the scenes at Molineux ever since Chinese billionaires Fosun took over the club three years ago.

And Rodrigo looks set to become the latest Gestifute client, after Joao Moutinho, Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio, Daniel Podence and more, to pull on an iconic golden shirt.

Reports emerged yesterday suggesting Wolves were in talks over a deal to bring Rodrigo to England and the Mirror have now backed up those claims.

The 19-year-old apparently has offers on the table from clubs in Italy but the Premier League is his dream destination. Wolves are set to offer him a contract until the summer of 2024, while paying £10.6 million for his signature.

A teenager who has played just 47 minutes of Primeira Liga football for Sporting Lisbon this season, it feels unlikely that Rodrigo will be challenging Neves and Moutinho for a place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI initially.

But with Wolves looking to challenge on multiple fronts, both home and abroad, some extra depth would not go amiss.
