Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks with Benfica to sign Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos in the summer transfer window, according to Mais Futebol.

Mais Futebol have reported that Wolves have opened talks with Benfica over signing forward Ramos this summer.

Talks are in the initial stage at the moment, with Portuguese giants Benfica open to letting the forward leave but only on a permanent basis.

Newcastle United have also been linked with Ramos.

Record reported last month that Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs keen on the 21-year-old forward.

The report claimed that Benfica are open to selling Ramos for €40 million (£33.87 million).

Wolverhampton Wanderers or Newcastle United for Goncalo Ramos?

In our view, Wolverhampton Wanderers are more likely than Newcastle United to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica in the summer transfer window.

If Benfica do not want to sell the 21-year-old for anything less than €40 million (£33.87 million), then we do not think that Newcastle will sign him.

After all, the Magpies have two very good and experienced strikers in Callum Wilson and Chris Wood.

On the other hand, Wolves could do with a new forward.

Raul Jimenez is a brilliant striker, but the Wanderers need someone to support him.

Ramos made 17 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the Portuguese league last season.

The youngster scored seven goals and gave one assist in those matches.
