Wolverhampton Wanderers lead the race for Viktor Gyokeres and could beat West Ham United to the Coventry City hitman.

Wolves are the ‘leading club’ in the battle to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to a report from Sky Sports.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have yet to open talks but are considered to be the favourites to sign Gyokeres despite interest from elsewhere.

It’s stated that Crystal Palace and West Ham United are keen on Gyokeres after a superb Championship season.

Wolves are desperate to overhaul their striking options though and seem ready to push for the Swede’s signature.

Much will depend on whether Coventry win promotion though, after the Sky Blues reached the Championship playoffs.

If Coventry secure a stunning promotion to the Premier League, Gyokeres surely won’t be going anywhere.

Even if the Sky Blues don’t go up, this won’t be an easy deal.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported in January that Coventry were seeking £25million in order to sell Gyokeres.

A similar fee may be needed this summer with Coventry no doubt reluctant to sell their top striker.

West Ham and Wolves target Viktor Gyokeres deserves a Premier League chance

It’s not often you see Brighton and Hove Albion making a mistake in the transfer market.

Gyokeres may just qualify as one though having blossomed into a star since joining Coventry permanently in 2021.

Gyokeres joined Brighton from Brommapojkarna back in 2018 but only ever played eight times for their first team.

Brighton decided to cash in two years ago and Gyokeres has gone on to make that decision look like an error.

The 24-year-old has now smashed 38 goals across the last two Championship campaigns.

Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by boss Mark Robins, Gyokeres has become one of the top strikers outside the Premier League – and surely deserves a top-flight chance after barely featuring for Brighton.
