Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on Napoli duo Mario Rui and Amadou Diawara.

According to Calcio Napoli 24, Wolverhampton Wanderers have made phone calls to Napoli about a potential double deal for Mario Rui and Amadou Diawara.

Wolves may have lost their last two games against Watford and Brighton, but it has been a strong start for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

A top 10 finish is certainly a realistic goal for Wolves this season, and they may even have ambitions of sneaking into a European place if they can make some smart January signings.

Now, Calcio Napoli 24 report that Wolves have made contact with Napoli about signing two of their players; left back Mario Rui and midfielder Amadou Diawara.

However, it’s stated that Napoli have given a firm ‘no’ to the phone calls about Rui, whilst questions about Diawara have been met with a ‘wait and see’ response, leaving Wolves with early problems in their pursuit of a double deal.

Rui, 27, only joined Napoli on a permanent basis from Roma this past summer after a successful loan spell, and he has been playing regularly in place of the injured Faouzi Ghoulam.

A Portuguese international with seven caps to his name, Rui could be targeted in case Wolves can’t land Atletico Madrid loanee Jonny permanently, offering a more experienced option ahead of Ruben Vinagre.

Meanwhile, Guinean international midfielder Diawara has been highly-rated since his time with Bologna, and has often struggled to nail down regular first-team football at the Stadio San Paolo.

The 21-year-old has made just three starts this season, and could be willing to move on if Napoli let him, potentially giving Wolves another top midfielder alongside Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves.
