Wolverhampton Wanderers are back in for Jean-Clair Todibo a year-and-a-half after they missed out to Barcelona for the signature of a £20 million-rated centre-back, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Better late than never, right?
Back in January 2019, Wolves had set their sights on bringing another of Europe’s under-the-radar talents to Molineux (La Depeche).
But with Todibo producing performances beyond his tender years in Ligue 1 for Toulouse, the teenager didn’t stay ‘under-the-radar’ for long.
He ended up at Barcelona instead. 15 months on, however, Todibo could finally make the switch to Molineux.
A classy Frenchman who plays the game with such supreme self-confidence, the 20-year-old was barely given a kick of the ball at Barca.
But, since joining Schalke on loan in January, he has stood head and shoulders above the rest in a side sinking like a stone in the Bundesliga.
And, according to Mundo Deportivo, his eye-catching performances in Germany have encouraged Wolves to re-ignite their interest.
If is no secret that Barcelona are desperate to fund a summer bid for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez and, if they are to sign a man with a £99 million release clause, they will have to get creative.
The La Liga champions are desperate to find buyers for a whole host of fringe players, with Rafinha, Ivan Rakitic, Junior Firpo and more all up for sale.
So Wolves’ interest in Todibo, who is expected to cost around £22 million, will be very well received in Catalonia.
