Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an £18 million bid for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani but TuttoJuve claims that the Serie A giants want £23 million for the Italian’s signature.

Daniele Rugani and Nacho Fernandez are two peas in a pod.

Like the long-serving Real Madrid centre-back, Rugani spends year after year whiling away his time on the bench at one of the biggest clubs in European football.

Trophies are not exactly in short supply but both players must know, in their heart of hearts, that if it is first-team football they want then a parting of the ways is the only solution.

At the age of 25, one of the most talented defenders on the continent really needs to start featuring week-in, week-out. And a move to Wolves would hand him exactly that.

A commanding, classy performer who should fit in nicely in Nuno Espirito Santo’s preferred formation, Rugani has made just three Serie A starts all season long.

When Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Matthijs de Ligt and Merih Demiral are all fit, he is probably fifth in Juve’s pecking order despite having worked with Maurizio Sarri previously at Empoli.

Juventus are still holding out for a sizeable fee, however, for a player who has found game-time increasingly hard to come by as the years pass. They want £23 million, £5 million more than Wolves’s initial offer.

And it remains to be seen how Rugani feels about it all. Will he sacrifice guaranteed silverware for first-team football?
