Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Lyon and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 25-year-old was previously on the books of Manchester United, joining the Old Trafford club in 2015, but he left two years later for the French Ligue 1 side.

Depay has enjoyed a fruitful stint at Lyon, his 116 appearances yielding 39 goals and 41 assists in all competitions including 12 goals and 16 assists in 2018-19, according to Transfermarkt.

The Birmingham Mail did add that Champions League winners and Premier League runners-up Liverpool are believed to be favourites for the player’s signature.

However, this seems to contradict an earlier Sky Sports News report from the end of May which stated that the Reds are simply not interested in moving for him this summer, seemingly leaving the door open for other clubs.

Wolves boast an impressive first-choice front line of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota but, as reported by the Birmingham Mail, Nuno Espirito Santo is believed to be interested in bolstering his attacking ranks.

As well as his exploits at club level, Depay is also a Netherlands international with an impressive tally of 16 goals from 46 caps – roughly a goal every three games – and featured in his nation’s UEFA Nations League semi-final game against England and final against Portugal (Transfermarkt).
