West Brom could reportedly sell Salomon Rondon to Midland rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were impressed by his 2018/19 Premier League form.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an enquiry about signing Salomon Rondon as they look to beat Newcastle United to the Venezuelan target man, as reported by The Mail.
Wolves enjoyed a superb return to the Premier League this season, finishing seventh under Nuno Espirito Santo. But with Europa League football possibly on its way to Molineux, the former Valencia and Porto boss will be fully aware that he needs to add depth to a tight-knit squad.
A new centre-forward appears to be a must, given that no player in Wolves’ squad scored more than four league goals in 2018/19 apart from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.
And The Mail claims that Rondon is an option. The 29-year-old enjoyed his best ever Premier League season with 11 goals during a loan spell at Newcastle from West Bromwich Albion, winning the club’s Player of the Year award as a result.
Rafa Benitez would love to sign Rondon permanently but it remains to be seen whether owner Mike Ashley is willing to pay £16.5 million for a player who will turn 30 later this year.
Wolves, by contrast, would surely have little problem paying such a fee with their billionaire owners making plenty of funds available. But will West Brom really sell to their Midland rivals?
