Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined the race to sign Newcastle United striker Niclas Fullkrug, according to reports.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are preparing for life in the top flight after storming to the Championship title. Only a final day defeat denied Wolves the chance to bring up their century of points – they also finished as the league’s top goalscorers having found the back of the net on 82 occasions.

Nevertheless, they appear to be keen to strengthen their striker ranks over the summer, with The Sun on Sunday (13/05; page 62) reporting that Wolves are one of the teams keen on signing the 25-year-old who has enjoyed a superb season in the Bundesliga.
Fullkrug scored 16 goals in all competitions for Hannover 96, including 14 in the top flight – only two players scored more in the league this term, including Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski – and now has a queue of English clubs forming, with The Sun on Sunday reporting that Wolves are joined by Newcastle, Huddersfield, Leicester, Cardiff and Watford in the race for the £6 million-rated frontman.

On this season’s evidence, it would appear to be a superb piece of business to get Fullkrug through the Molineux door for £6 million. However, his stunning season has almost come out of nowhere with the German only scoring five goals during their promotion-clinching campaign last year.
He has got a decent career record, but few could have anticipated how lethal he would prove to be this term, and Nuno is perhaps hoping that he can prove to be that much of a surprise if Wolves manage to win the incredibly congested chase for his signature during the summer.
