Wolverhampton Wanderers are the latest club linked with Vincent Aboubakar after previous reported interest from Newcastle United and Norwich City.

It appears that there is a very high chance that Vincent Aboubakar could be plying his trade on British shores next season.

Turkish publication Fotomac reported in February that the Porto powerhouse was a £10 million summer target for Norwich City. And Futbol Arena claimed only last month that Aboubakar was in advanced negotiations with Newcastle United, a club he has been linked to since bursting onto the scene with Lorient in 2014.

However, it now appears that Wolves are the frontrunners for the Cameroon international’s signature. Goal claims that Besiktas wanted to sign Aboubakar on a permanent deal after his 18 league goals fired them to the league title on loan from FC Porto last season.

However, the report adds that they were unable to meet Porto’s asking price – but this may not be a problem for a Wolves side bankrolled by wealthy Chinese investors and who broke their transfer record twice in the last 12 months.

Whether Aboubakar would cost more than the £13 million Wolves paid to sign Helder Costa on a permanent basis from Benfica in January, as reported by the BBC, remains to be seen.

Though the addition of a new striker, one who played in the Champions League last season, may go down well with Wolves supporters.

The Midlands club struggled in front of goal last season with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Nouha Dicko and Joe Mason netting just nine times in the Championship between them.
