Wolverhampton Wanderers have held talks to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Rodrigo Fernandes for around £10 million, according to O Jogo.
It seems that yet another Jorge Mendes client could be on his way to Molineux.
While Wolves have played down the influence of the Iberian super-agent on their transfer strategy, it’s fair to say Mendes’ close ties with the club’s Chinese owners have proved to be rather useful over the years.
Without Mendes, it is hard to imagine the likes of Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves or Diogo Jota strutting their stuff in old gold. Rui Patricio, Pedro Neto, Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa and January signing Daniel Podence are all Gestifute clients too.
And you could soon add 19-year-old Fernandes to that list.
O Jogo claims that Wolves are expected to table an offer of £10 million for the Portugal youth star, with negotiations underway ahead of a potential move from Lisbon to England.
Rodrigo is a deep-lying central midfielder who can also play at left-back.
He has played just 47 minutes of Primeira Liga football for Sporting this season, however. And given the financial problems gripping the capital city club, the chance to sell a seldom-seen youngster, albeit one with huge potential, might be impossible to turn down.
Rodrigo would be the latest in a series of talented teenagers snapped up by Wolves, following in the footsteps of Meritan Shabani, Pedro Neto, Bruno Jordao (below) and many more.
