Wolverhampton Wanderers are still holding talks over a deal for Paulinho, and Braga are confident they will sell their star striker for his £23 million price-tag, according to the Mail.
While Wolves’ run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League has not exactly gone under the radar, Nuno Espirito Santo perhaps deserves even more praise for reaching the last eight of a grueling competition with one of the smallest squads in English football.
The fact that Raul Jimenez was forced to play in 55 of Wolves 59 fixtures across 2019/20 alone highlights just how short of options Nuno is in the final third.
Neither Ashley Benney-Seal nor Leonardo Campana are quite ready for a first-team role so an experienced, proven back-up option would be well received – not least by an exhausted Jimenez.
Fortunately, talks are underway regarding a deal that would see Paulinho become the latest Portuguese speaker to join an Iberian-influenced Molinuex dressing room.
The Mail claims that negotiations over a move to Wolves are ongoing for a striker who scored against Nuno’s side in the Europa League group stages back in August.
Braga have already rejected an offer from Lazio (believed to be in the region of £14 million by Sky).
But the Taca da Liga champions are confident that Wolves will meet the £23 million price-tag they have slapped on the head of their 25-goal top scorer.
As Patrick Cutrone found out, however, playing second-fiddle to Jimenez is no fun at times. Whether Paulinho is happy to sit on the bench and wait for his opportunity in cup competitions remains to be seen.
