Wolverhampton Wanderers have already decided to hand Jose Sa the number one shirt at Molineux as the Olympiakos goalkeeper edges closer to a Premier League switch, as reported by the Express and Star.

After Rui Patricio departed for Roma after spending the last three years with ‘11’ on his back, club legend Carl Ikeme took to Twitter.

Wolves retired the number one shirt back in 2018, when Ikeme was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Thankfully, one of Molineux’s favourite sons survived to tell the tale and he is now keen to see someone inherit the shirt he wore during many of his 207 appearances for the Midland giants.

And it seems that Jose Sa, the 6ft 4ins Portuguese powerhouse, will soon become the first player to wear that iconic shirt since Ikeme was forced into an early retirement just weeks after Wolves’ successful promotion bid three years ago.

Is Jose Sa about to become Rui Patricio’s replacement at Wolves?

Wolves have agreed personal terms on a deal worth around £7 million with the former Porto ace.

Reports from Greece on Wednesday suggested that Sa was set to board a flight and undergo a medical in the Black Country, although it remains to be seen if the 28-year-old will be officially unveiled as a Wolverhampton Wanderers player before the weekend.

A Wolves side now under the stewardship of former Benfica manager Bruno Lage have already completed the signings of Barcelona winger Fransisco Trincao and Colombian centre-back Yerson Mosquera, all the while bringing back Rayan Ait-Nouri after a rather hit-and-miss loan spell from Ligue 1 outfit Angers.

Patricio joined Jose Mourinho’s Roma for around £10 million earlier this week, via the Independent.
