Lewis Grabban is on loan at Sunderland from Bournemouth but Wolves could benefit from a release clause in his contract.
Thank god for Lewis Grabban. As it stands, Sunderland are just a point off the bottom of the Championship but, without the ten goals scored by their on-loan talisman, the prospect of successive relegations would be very real indeed.
After all, this is a Sunderland side light on attacking quality. So boasting a player who is currently joint fourth in the Golden Boot race is absolutely invaluable, while making new manager Chris Coleman’s chances of reviving the perennial underachieves just that little bit easier.
But according to TEAMtalk, it is far from certain that Grabban will be a Sunderland player after the January transfer window. It is understood that parent club Bournemouth put a recall clause in his contract – meaning they could cut his spell at the Stadium of Light short before selling him on in the New Year.
The report adds that a Fulham side who have struggled for goals this season are interested, as are Championship leaders and clear promotion favourites Wolves.
It appears that the Black Country side are one back-up striker away from boasting a complete squad with Leo Bonatini lacking any real support or competition in attack. Grabban, however, is a proven Championship striker who is not only starring this season but has plenty of history at second tier level.
Grabban plundered 22 goals for Bournemouth in 2013/14 and also fired in a further 12 to help Norwich City earn promotion the season after. But Wolves’ gain would most definitely be Sunderland’s loss.
