Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of Hapoel Tel Aviv midfielder Emmanuel Boateng but work permit issues could mean the youngster is forced to bide his time for a chance at Molineux, according to KickGH.
While it’s fair to say Boateng is far from a household name in the Midlands, Wolves fans should probably give their chief scout the benefit of the doubt.
After all, Ben Wrigglesworth has a fine track record when it comes to unearthing rough diamonds.
He played a key role in the deals that saw N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez join Leicester City as little-known prospects from the other side of the Channel.
And while Boateng might never reach the impeccable standards set by a pair of Premier League-winning legends, the 22-year-old has caught Wrigglesworth’s eye for a reason.
An all-action player who can adapt to a multitude of midfield roles, the Ghanaian is now expected to make his move to England later this summer with Wolves contacting Hapoel to inform the Israel-based giants of their interest.
But considering that Boateng is yet to make a single appearance for the Ghanaian national team, it could be some time before Wolves fans see him dressed up in black and gold.
KickGH reports that Wolves could loan Boateng out, with clubs in Denmark, Italy and Belgium interested, until that pesky red tape is overcome.
Blessed with boundless energy, the ability to overwhelm opponents with his tigerish style and an underrated range of passes, there are a few similarities between Boateng and a young Kante. Maybe that is why Wrigglesworth likes him.
