Wolverhampton Wanderers have entered negotiations with Napoli over a deal for Jorge Mendes client Faouzi Ghoulam, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

With one of football’s most influential agents looking to secure a fresh start for one of his players, it was only a matter of time before Wolves were mentioned.

Since being taken over and transformed by Chinese billionaires Fosun in 2016, Mendes has brought Rui Patricio, Diogo Jota, Helder Costa, Ruben Neves, Daniel Podence and more to Molineux.

According to reports in Italy, Ghoulam could be the latest Gestifute client to pull on that iconic golden shirt.

Wolves entered talks over a deal with Napoli on Monday, although neither club has come to an agreement just yet.

An adventurous and attack-minded left-back with one hell of a cross in his locker, Ghoulam was one of Serie A’s most influential wide players during Rafa Benitez’s and Maurizio Sarri’s time in charge of the Partenopei.

But a series of long-term injuries have seen the Algeria international fall behind the buccaneering Mario Rui in the pecking order, starting just three league games in 2019/20.

Gazzetta dello Sport claimed last week that Ghoulam’s £60,000-a-week contract was proving to be something of a stumbling block in his attempts to secure a move away from Napoli.

Given that only two players in Wolves’ squad (Patricio and Joao Moutinho) earn more than £60,000-a-week, Ghoulam may be forced to take a pay-cut at Molineux.

The former St Etienne defender is expected to take Jonny Otto’s place in the starting XI, with the Spaniard set for months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his knee.
