According to Italian media outlet Gazza Mercato, Wolves are lining up a summer swoop for AC Milan right-back Ignazio Abate, as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to add further strength in depth to his squad at Molineux.

Abate, 31, began his career with Milan, before rejoining the Rossoneri in 2009, and he has since gone on to make 282 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants.

Gazza Mercato claims that Nuno sees the versatile Italy international as the ideal addition to his Wolves squad this summer, and with just one year remaining on his current deal at the San Siro, Milan could very well be tempted to sell this summer.

Good signing for Wolves?

Abate would be a really strong addition to Nuno’s squad.

He is a right-back by trade, and despite being an exceptionally strong defender, he can also operate further forward in the right wing role.

This would make him ideally suited to Wolves’ system, what with Nuno’s penchant for deploying wing-backs.

The 31-year-old is also vastly experienced in playing at the very highest level, having spent so long with Milan. He has also earned 22 international caps for Italy.

According to Transfer Markt, he is valued at £2.7 million, and in today’s day and age, that would be a real snip for someone with so much quality.
