Jack Donaghy has enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season in National League Division Two and has piqued the interest of Championship giants Wolves.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have big plans for the January transfer window but their first signing of the New Year could be relatively low profile in comparison to their recent big name, big money links.
According to the Shields Gazette, Wolves have taken young defender Jack Donaghy on trial from Northern League Division Two side Hebburn Town.
It is understood that Donaghy will play a game for Wolves’ reserve side and he will be desperate to impress in order to earn a contract at Molineux and take his first major steps into the professional game.
The highly-rated talent was only called up to the Hebburn first-team at the start of the season but he has progressed at an alarming rate, earning rave reviews from his manager along the way.
“Jack plays in a trial game on Saturday morning for Wolves so I don’t expect him to feature for us (against Billingham Town at the weekend),” Scott Oliver told the Shields Gazette. “Jack has been our player of the season so I’m delighted league clubs are looking at him.”
Wolves may be the most exciting side outside the Premier League at present but it appears they have a bright future too. A number of promising young talents are making their mark for the club’s reserves sides with the likes of Donovan Wilson (below) and Connor Ronan looking like real stars of tomorrow.
And while Donaghy is not a signing that would lead Wolves to promotion, he is another example of the club trying to build for long-term success.
