Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on yet another Portuguese player, according to The Sunday Mirror (6 September, page 66).
Wolves concluded a deal for the teenage Porto striker Fabio Silva on Saturday, extending their contingent to 10 on the playing staff alone.
And the newspaper claims the Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha could be next after he turned down CSKA Moscow.
CSKA were said to have ‘gazumped’ Wolves with a £9 million bid for Palhinha.
But talks with the Molineux club are set to resume this week, following the 25-year-old’s refusal to move to Russia, according to The Sunday Mirror.
The newspaper adds that Sporting have ‘money woes’, leaving Wolves ‘sure’ they can land Palhinha for the same price CSKA offered.

Over in Portugal, meanwhile, there is a different take on Palhinha’s situation, with Record reporting that the former Braga loanee has been reinstated to the Sporting first team.
It is claimed that while a transfer is still possible, a new deal could even be on the cards after the Lisbon club turned down two €12m (£10.7m) proposals.
