Report: Wolves can sign Stoke’s Butland for £30million despite Lambert jibes

Paul Lambert previously laughed off £35m claims but now Wolves can reportedly sign Jack Butland from Stoke for £35m.

Jack Butland is available to sign from relegated Stoke City this summer for £30million, according to the Sun, with Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers both interested.

This is despite the fact that only at the start of the month, former Potters manager Paul Lambert was laughing off rumours that Wolves wanted to land Butland for £35million.

“Is that for one glove? With the way the modern market is, I think you might get one glove for that!” Lambert was quoted by ESPN.

“When it becomes a little bit probably more realistic with the modern-day transfer fees then wait and see.

“I obviously know people at Wolves and get on well with those guys. But I think that would probably get you Jack’s right hand.”

Lambert has since left the club and has been replaced by Gary Rowett as boss and it now seems that Stoke are actually willing to sell Butland for the same price as Everton paid Sunderland for Jordan Pickford last summer.

Liverpool had been linked with the England international, but have now turned their attention to Roma goalkeeper Alisson instead.

It means that Wolves are leading the way for Butland’s signature, with Leicester said to only be interested if current number one Kasper Schmeichel leaves – something that has not been spoken about in any great detail elsewhere.

Birmingham City will be hoping that as much as possible is paid for the 25-year-old, because as part of the terms that saw them sell the stopper to the Bet365 Stadium in 2013, they would receive 20 percent of any fee.
