Wolverhampton Wanderers spent big in the summer, but the board are ready to get the chequebook out once again.
A report in the Daily Mirror has suggested that Paul Lambert will have the funds to strengthen his Wolves squad during the January transfer window, despite the club’s heavy spending in the summer.
The Mirror reports that Wolves’ new owners Fosun spent £13m during the previous window in a bid to give former boss Walter Zenga a squad capable of making an instant charge for promotion.

However, the Italian’s tenure was short lived as he was dismissed after the club’s defeat to Leeds in October, having only previously secured four wins in the Championship up until that point.
One of the main reasons that Zenga’s tenure proved to be a disappointment was the fact that the summer acquisitions simply failed to hit the ground running in the second tier.

Nevertheless, the Mirror reports that the board are still ready to back their new man in the winter as he tries to lead the club away from the bottom three.
The Mirror adds that Lambert is planning to target players who know the division well during the window.
Given Wolves’ current position, it certainly makes sense to try and sign players with Championship experience as he will have a better idea of what they can bring to the side, and thus, their arrivals should mean that the club are taking a much smaller gamble.
