Lars Dendoncker has turned down the chance to join brother Leander at Wolverhampton Wanderers as Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed a deal with the Molineux and Celtic target, according to Het Laaste Nieuws.

A defensive midfielder who has become a free agent after his contract with Club Brugge expired, perhaps it was the presence of his older sibling in Nuno’s squad that convinced Dendoncker Jr to reject a move to the Midlands.

After all, the Belgian international has gone from strength to strength during his second season at Wolves, adding to his burgeoning reputation with a fabulous strike in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over near neighbours Aston Villa.

With Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Morgan Gibbs-White, Romain Saiss and co also fighting for a place in Nuno’s starting XI, Lars Dendoncker would have found himself well down the pecking order in Old Gold.

So perhaps a move to Brighton, where he has apparently signed a two-year deal, is a sensible decision.

Celtic were also interested in signing the Belgium U19 international on a free transfer, though Dendoncker should benefit immensely from working alongside Graham Potter at the Amex.

The Brighton boss has a fine track record when it comes to honing the talents of precocious youngsters, as the likes of Steven Alzate, Aaron Connolly, Danny James and Joe Rodon would no doubt tell you.
