Report: Wolves an option for £35m La Liga winner who is ‘like Dani Alves’

Nelson Semedo could join the growing cast of Jorge Mendes clients at Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Barcelona looking to sell the rampaging right-back for £35 million, according to Mundo Deportivo.

It is almost a month since Wolves sold Matt Doherty to Tottenham Hotspur.

And, given that there is not an obvious replacement for the Irishman in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, it is no wonder the Wolves boss is desperate to bring in a new right-sided wide man before the transfer window slams shut in just three weeks (Birmingham Mail).

Who better than Semedo to take Doherty’s place under a coach who gives so much creative licence to his wing-backs, who operate more as forwards than defenders in Nuno’s 3-5-2 formation?

One of the fastest footballers in European football, the two-time La Liga champion is also a client of Jorge Mendes – the super-agent who brought Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Rui Patricio, Daniel Podence and even Nuno to Wolves due to his friendship with the club’s Chinese owners.

“Physically he’s very strong and I think Barcelona have made a great signing with him. He’s young, he has the quality to reach Dani Alves’ level,” former Camp Nou goalkeeper Vitor Baia told Sport back in 2017.

“He has it all to become like Dani Alves.”

Semedo might have fallen some way short of the impeccable standards set by one of the most successful footballers of the 21st century, but he certainly shares Alves’ adventurous streak, not to mention an explosive burst of acceleration.

Adama Traore has filled in impressively in a wing-back role for Wolves, while Nuno is also a big fan of youngsters Oskar Buur and Dion Sanderson.
