Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly monitoring Paddy McNair’s situation at Sunderland.

The Mail reports that the Seagulls are in discussions over a £7 million deal that would see the 23-year-old return to the top flight. McNair has experienced back to back relegations with the Black Cats, but was undoubtedly one of their most impressive performers this past season in the Championship.

The former Manchester United trainee scored four goals in just 16 league appearances for Sunderland as injury played a key role in his campaign. Four goals in his final seven appearances painfully hinted that the club may have perhaps stood a much better chance of staying up had McNair been fit for the entirety of the season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are preparing for life in the top flight after running away with the Championship title this past season. Their midfield was a key reason for their success, with Ruben Neves in particular proving to be a sensational signing for the Molineux outfit.
Despite their star power in the middle of the park, McNair would arguably be a very good addition to their ranks given his ability to play in midfield or in defence. But it appears that they may have to move quickly with Chris Hughton looking to bring the Northern Ireland international to Brighton.
