Newcastle United could rival Wolverhampton Wanderers for Oleksandr Zinchenko.
According to the Daily Star, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ £16million bid for Manchester City talent Oleksandr Zinchenko could be under threat from Newcastle United.
Wolves haven’t gone all guns blazing in the transfer market despite some expecting that approach, and have only brought in Rui Patricio and Raul Jimenez, though they have secured permanent deals for Ruben Vinagre, Leo Bonatini, Willy Boly and Diogo Jota.
They are though expected to make more moves, and Wolves are currently chasing a £16million deal for Manchester City youngster Oleksandr Zinchenko, with an offer made last week.
However, the Daily Star now report that Wolves’ bid is under threat, as Newcastle United are also interested in signing the Ukrainian and could launch a rival move.
It’s claimed that Zinchenko has yet to make a decision about his future, and Wolves will now be hoping to fend off Newcastle’s late interest and lure him to Molineux.
Zinchenko, 22, joined City from Russian side Ufa in 2016, and arrived as an attacking midfielder or winger before being converted into a left back or left wing back – and eerily similar career arc to Kenedy, who is set to rejoin Newcastle on loan from Chelsea.
Zinchenko spent the 2016-17 season on loan with PSV Eindhoven but failed to impress, though he did make 14 appearances for City last season as he stepped up as a left back following Benjamin Mendy’s injury.
The Ukrainian will now be back to third-choice left back at City though, and may find he has better first-team prospects with Wolves or even Newcastle as the Magpies seemingly plot a late move.
