According to Wolfsburger Nachrichten, Wolfsburg have already identified Koln striker Jhon Cordoba as a possible replacement for Wout Weghorst.

It’s claimed that sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is leading the interest in Cordoba, which is no great surprise given their history.

Schmadtke led Koln’s transfers from 2013 to 2017, and brought Cordoba to Wolfsburg in 2017, months before resigning from his post.

The Colombian has smashed 34 goals in his last two seasons, and is now being eyed up for a move to Wolfsburg in case Weghorst goes.

Bild reported at the end of June that Arsenal and Newcastle United both want to sign Weghorst, with a €35million (£32million) price tag on his head.

Weghorst has hit 20 goals this season and 18 last term, whilst 12 assists in his two years at Wolfsburg mean he has racked up 50 goal contributions.

The giant target man is a dangerous aerial threat, and his huge frame and physicality make him ideal for English football.

With Wolfsburg eyeing replacements, Arsenal and Newcastle may have real encouragement that they can sign the 27-year-old this summer – but may not be too happy with that price tag.
