Lazar Markovic is in talks with Fiorentina after being told he can leave Liverpool, seemingly ending interest from Leicester and Watford.

Fiorentina now look like the favourites to sign Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic as the Serbian enters discussions with the Italian club over a possible transfer, according to Goal.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp admitted to the Liverpool Echo that Markovic’s career at Anfield was effectively over and that any interested party could negotiate a deal for him.

Premier League duo Leicester City and Watford have both made enquiries about the 23-year-old, while the Mirror claimed Hull City – where the winger spent the latter half of last season on loan – were also interested in an £8m deal.

However, the Merseysiders are looking for double that and are hoping to recoup £16m for Markovic after paying Benfica £20m (BBC) for him in the summer of 2014.

Yet despite interest from England, it looks as if the Serbia international’s immediate future is destined to be in Serie A, having flown out to start talks with the Viola.

The Florence-based club have been admirers of Markovic – who has managed just 34 first team appearances for Liverpool – for some time and previously considered moves in the last two transfer windows.
