According to a report in the Wigan Post, Wigan Athletic are still looking to sign Reading’s Tyler Blackett this month despite reportedly seeing a bid turned down for the defender.

A report in the Daily Mail claimed the Royals snubbed a bid in the region of £450,000 from Wigan for the former Manchester United man, but that hasn’t put the Latics off ahead of the upcoming transfer deadline.

Wigan are currently just six points above the Championship drop-zone and manager Paul Cook is looking to add to his ranks before the end of January in a bid to boost his side’s survival chances.

It is claimed Cook has targeted Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox and Aberdeen holding midfielder Graeme Shinnie this month as he seeks to reinforce Wigan’s defence.

The Lancashire club have conceded 41 goals in 28 league games this season, therefore there is clear room for improvement.

Blackett would offer versatility at the back with the former England U21 international capable of featuring at either left-back or in the middle.

Tyler Blackett of Reading arrives prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Swansea City and Reading at the Liberty Stadium on October 27, 2018 in Swansea, Wales.

After coming through Manchester United’s youth ranks, Blackett has enjoyed spells on loan at Blackpool, Birmingham City and Celtic before moving to Reading on a three-year deal in the summer of 2016.

Blackett’s deal at the Madejski Stadium expires in the summer and with no real future at the Berkshire club, a move to Wigan this month could be a real possibility should the two clubs come to an agreement.
