The former Championship Player of the Year would be a coup from the Lactics.
Norwich City’s former loanee Patrick Bamford
It is reported today that Wigan Athletic have made a bid to sign Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford permanently this summer – according to The Sun.
The report claims, as relayed by the Sky Sports Transfer Centre, that Wigan have made a £3 million bid for the striker.
It is certainly an ambitious move from the Lactics, as they look to improve their squad for a Championship campaign – following promotion from League One last season.
Patrick Bamford in action for Boro
Bamford has spent several spells out on loan from Chelsea. He has spent time with MK Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and, most recently, Norwich City, with varying degrees of success.
A two-time England under-21 international the 22-year-old was the Championship Player of the Year in 2014-15 after scoring 19 goals in 43 appearances for Boro.
Wigan would therefore be getting their hands on a player who is clearly very capable of succeeding in the Championship.
Will Grigg celebrates scoring the first goal for Wigan Athletic
The club currently have the likes of Will Grigg, Craig Davies and Nick Powell in attack but need reinforcements if they are going to survive in the Championship this campaign.
