Morrison is already looking for yet another club after failing to make any sort of an impact at Lazio.
Rafael Benitez is unlikely to risk derailing Newcastle United’s return to the Premier League by handing a lifeline to troubled talent Ravel Morrison, The Chronicle reports.
Now 23 years of age, the gifted midfielder’s career is already in ruins with his attitude and lack of professionalism appearing to have ruined any chances he had of fulfilling the huge potential he demonstrated while winning the 2011 FA Youth Cup with Manchester United alongside Michael Keane, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.
However, while his one-time midfield partner is now the world’s most expensive footballer, Morrison is about to be shipped out by Serie A side Lazio after playing just sixty minutes of football in the Italian top flight since joining in the summer of 2015.
The Daily Mail claim Championship challengers Aston Villa and Newcastle are willing to grant yet another ‘last chance’ to one of the most naturally gifted youngsters of his generation, while Hull City boss Mike Phelan admitted his interest to The Sun recently.
However, The Chronicle report that Benitez will not even consider the prospect of bringing the playmaker to St James’ Park after he hopelessly wasted the opportunities bestowed to him by West Ham, QPR and Cardiff City.
The Spaniard told The Chronicle recently that he is only looking to add players with a winning mentality to his squad to push them across the line in the Championship, adding that prospective signings must demonstrate their respect to the club and the fans.
Therefore, this appears to rule out a disruptive influence who Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce, two of the most respected disciplinarians in the game, viewed as beyond reproach.
Benitez, too, is a firm exponent of the principle that hard-work reaps rewards, dropping James Rodriguez from Real Madrid’s starting line-up due to his concerns about the Colombian’s aptitude and fitness.
Therefore, if he’s willing to take such a stance with a bonafide world star, it’s unlikely he will take too much pity on Morrison.
