The Athletic has reported that Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will sign a new contract after Adrian.

Liverpool have announced on their official website today that Adrian has committed his future to the club.

Another goalkeeper, Kelleher, will be next to put pen to paper.

The Republic of Ireland international will sign a new deal in the coming months.

Back-up to Alisson?

Kelleher became the second-choice goalkeeper at Liverpool this past season.

Adrian is the third-choice goalkeeper.

Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and the Brazil international will remain the number one between the posts for the Reds.

Now, you could argue that Kelleher needs to play regularly to enhance his career.

Kelleher is only 22, and if he gets stuck behind Alisosn and does not get enough playing time, then his progress could be stunted.

The Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper played twice in the Premier League, two games in the Champions League, and once in the FA Cup for the Reds this past season.

However, goalkeepers do not always tend to play regularly when they are in the early 20s, unless, of course, they are exceptional.

Kelleher would learn a lot from training with Alisson on a regular basis and working under manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
