According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur players did not like training under Jose Mourinho before facing Liverpool.
Tottenham sacked Mourinho as the first-team head coach yesterday, with Ryan Mason placed in charge of the side for now.
The decision came just a day after Spurs joined the European Super League and only days before the EFL Cup final against Manchester City.
The Athletic has reported that Tottenham players did not like training before the team faced Liverpool because they spent hours working on how to defend throw-ins.
The report states: “It did not take the Tottenham players to grow bored of Mourinho’s training sessions.
“They felt weighed down by the defensive focus, the hours spent working on how to defend throw-ins before facing Liverpool, and frustrated by the lack of attention to their own game.
“For years, Spurs teams of all levels had focused on building up from the back and passing the ball, but for Mourinho that was all forgotten.”

Results and performances under Mourinho in recent weeks have been disappointing, but Tottenham are still in the race for the Premier League top four (although they will not play in the Champions League even if they qualify as they have joined the European Super League).
Moreover, the EFL Cup final against Pep Guardiola’s City is only this coming weekend, and sacking a manager such as Mourinho who is a serial winner before such a big game is surprising.
It will be interesting who Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy appoints as the permanent successor to Mourinho.
