BBC Sport reported on their coverage (Monday, 9:16) of Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Everton that Spurs fans were singing ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’, to Toffees boss Frank Lampard. Spurs were excellent, on Monday.
Coming into the match, it was hard to predict a result. Lampard has got a tune out of his Everton side at times – but has also seen them lose heavily. Meanwhile, Tottenham have been the kings of inconsistency of late.
But it was Spurs who turned up, especially in the first half. A Michael Keane own goal gave Spurs the lead, before Son Heung-min and Harry Kane got their names on the score sheet. It was 4-0 inside a minute of the second 45.
Sergio Reguilon, having come on at half-time, tapped home before Kane got his second with a gorgeous left-footed volley – which saw him overtake Thierry Henry in the all-time Premier League goalscoring rankings.
Spurs saw out the game, maintaining a clean sheet and securing all three points, keeping their hopes of the top four alive. They subjected Lampard to chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’, in the second half.
Lampard future: How long could he last, if Everton enter drop zone?
Lampard was brought in by Everton in a fresh, new approach by the Toffees board. It came after Vitor Pereira was lined-up, which saw Everton fans immediately criticise a potential appointment. But he has struggled.
An Everton defence of Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Jonjoe Kenny was easily overrun. Everton players looked as though they lacked the belief. It will be difficult to come back from this, for Lampard.
