Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks impressed for England on Tuesday night.

According to the Daily Mail, England boss Gareth Southgate, his coaching staff and his players thought Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Winks was a key part in the 6-0 win over Bulgaria.
Having lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic last weekend, Southgate rang the changes for the trip to Bulgaria, and that included bringing Winks into midfield.
The Tottenham ace was picked ahead of Declan Rice after the West Ham man came in for huge criticism against the Czech Republic, and Winks really took his chance.
He excelled in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson, leaving England fans to take to Twitter and claim that Winks is much better than London rival Rice as they battle for a starting role.
Now, it’s believed that Southgate and his England staff were hugely impressed with Winks, feeling he was a key to such a thumping win in Sofia.
The game was marred by racist chanting and jeering from Bulgarian fans, but Winks was a shining light on the pitch, with his teammates even feeling they benefited from having somebody of his technical ability in front of the back line.

Winks is much better technically than Rice, and whilst Rice may be better defensively, having a technically-gifted passer like Winks next to Henderson gave England great balance.
Ahead of EURO 2020, it may now be Winks’s position to lose, but with Spurs in poor form, he’ll have to rise above that and continue to show that he’s the man for the job in England’s midfield.
