According to The Southern Daily Echo, Aston Villa and Sheffield United have held talks with Southampton over Charlie Austin.

It has been reported that promoted Premier League clubs United and Villa are interested in signing Austin from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that the Saints have told the Blades and the Villans that they will consider fair offers for the former Queens Park Rangers forward.

Good signing for Aston Villa?

Austin has struggled to make a huge impact at Southampton since he moved from QPR in January 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4 million.

The 29-year-old has had injury issues at St. Mary’s Stadium, but even when he has been fit, the forward has not been getting enough playing time.

Austin, though, is a proven Premier League goalscorer, and he would be a smart signing for Villa or the Blades in the summer transfer window.

The forward himself could do with a chance of scenario, as he is unlikely to establish himself in the Southampton starting lineup anytime soon.
