It wasn’t a happy reunion between Sokratis Papastathopoulos and his old Arsenal team-mates last night, it has to be said.

The big Greek defender came up against his former club for the first time since leaving the Gunners in the January transfer window.

Arsenal terminated Sokratis’s contract and Olympiacos snapped him up on a permanent contract.

But Mikel Arteta’s side beat them 3-1 in Greece last night to put one foot in the quarter-final of the Europa League.

The visitors opened the scoring through Martin Odegaard on 34 minutes, when the Real Madrid loanee let fly from 25 yards with a thunderous effort.

According to Football London, Sokratis ‘threw his hands up in disbelief’ immediately after the goal went in.

The Emirates Stadium side, who host the second leg next week, might’ve won the tie in the final 10 minutes last night, when Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny added two more away goals to make the trip to North London an uphill task for Sokratis and his new team-mates.
