Newcastle United won’t be spending huge money after their takeover, even if FFP rules are scrapped, according to the Independent

There has been huge excitement around St. James’ Park since the news broke that Saudi-investors were trying to buy the club.

Newcastle are set to become backed by one of the richest groups in the world if their current takeover does go through.

Already some high profile managers and players have been linked with a move to the Tyneside.

But the Independent claim that Newcastle’s spending plans actually aren’t hugely lavish.

“Newcastle is not about to become the richest club in the world,” the source apparently told the paper.

“Newcastle will have very rich owners but that does not mean massive spending.

“Even if there were no financial fair play (FFP) rules in place spending would be sensible.”

The comments may come as a disappointment for Newcastle supporters, who have been dreaming of some huge additions.

However, there will still be hope on Tyneside that the takeover will go through sooner rather than later.

Newcastle have been waiting for over two months for the Premier League to green-light their new owners, but no decision seems to be imminent over whether the buy-out can take place.
