Newcastle United’s new owners have told Unai Emery that he will have ‘substantial’ funds to spend in January as they look to attract him to St. James’ Park, the Telegraph say.
Money to spend
While Newcastle apparently haven’t offered any new manager ‘extravagant’ money in the next transfer window there is a realisation that they need to buy quality.
As a result Emery, and every other manager Newcastle have been interviewed, has apparently been told that there will be money to spend.
The Magpies’ board’s words seem to have worked on Emery too.
The Villarreal boss is now said to be keen to take the job at St. James’ Park, as he gets ready for the next step in his career.
Pressure on
It will be important that Emery gets his recruitment right in the new year straight away too.

Newcastle are currently six points adrift of safety, and with the limited amount of games left until January, it seems unlikely that they will be well clear of trouble by that point – even if Emery does make a wonderful start.
Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of players since their takeover already, but with a new manager not even in place yet, it seems unlikely that transfer plans will have been formalised.
The Magpies are now under pressure to get their replacement for Steve Bruce sorted, and there appears to be hope that Emery could be in their dugout at the weekend, when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
