Marcelo Bielsa is Everton’s number one choice to be their new manager, but he won’t be taking the job unless it suits him.

The Argentine is very particular about the teams he will manage, and he’s told Everton exactly what they need to do if they’re going to tempt him to Goodison Park.

Indeed, according to The Mail, Bielsa has already had conversations with Everton about what they need to do, and he’s told the Toffees that they need to add more pace to their team – particularly in the defence.

To be fair, Bielsa may not be wrong.

Seamus Coleman and Vitaly Mykolenko are far from the quickest full-backs you’ll see in this division, while you’re unlikely to see James Tarkowski, Conor Coady or Yerry Mina winning many races either.

Yes, Ben Godfrey has plenty of speed about him, but his injury issues have caused him to slow down in recent years.

Everton have been directly told to add more pace to the side if they want Bielsa, but the problem is that they don’t really have the funds required to reshape their squad.

After years of mis-spending, the Toffees are strapped for cash at the moment, and speedy defenders come at a premium these days in an age where pressing football and high lines are in fashion.

Bielsa’s demands are clear. Sign some quick players, but whether or not Everton have the funds needed to go out and do that remains to be seen.

Sadly, Everton may have to work with what they’ve already got, and some of the players at the club have proven over the past 18 months that they’re simply not good enough.

The Toffees may struggle to tempt Bielsa due to their lack of funds.
