Liverpool are getting into nervous territory with regards to Gini Wijnaldum.
From next month, the Netherlands international will only have the one year left on his contract.
And unless a new deal can be agreed, Liverpool risk losing the former Newcastle United midfielder – a £25 million signing in 2016 – for free this time next year.
But according to Goal.com, Jurgen Klopp is desperate for Wijnaldum to stay at Anfield.
The report claims that Klopp has told Wijnaldum and his representatives that he wants to see the player extend his contract on Merseyside.
Time is of the essence for Liverpool here, because TMW reported a couple of months ago that Inter Milan are interested in bringing Wijnaldum to Italy.
Wijnaldum has been at the club for four years but only in the last two seasons has he shown his importance to Klopp’s side, including scoring twice in a Champions League semi-final against Barcelona 13 months ago.
He isn’t the most appreciated player in the Liverpool squad, but he’s a very important one nonetheless and the German will be desperate to hang on to him.
