Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly been left ‘shaken’ by the opposition regarding the proposed European Super League.
Tottenham, along with five other Premier League clubs, announced on Sunday their intention to break away from UEFA and compete with the continent’s elite clubs in a separate competition.
But talkSPORT have tonight reported that the project is being disbanded after a number of clubs – starting with Chelsea – pulled out of the venture following colossal upheaval from fans, pundits and even government officials.
The Sun has reported that the Spurs official is ‘shaken’ by the level of contempt that this idea has stirred up and has told Paul Barber – a former board member at Tottenham who is now at Brighton – that the motive to break away stemmed from frustration that ‘UEFA doesn’t listen to us as a League’.
While a number of Premier League clubs have pulled out, the North Londoners aren’t yet among those reported to have made the same decisive move as Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, whose vice-chairman Ed Woodward has tonight resigned.
But the way things are going tonight, it seems only a matter of time before Tottenham follow suit and sever ties with the ESL.
