According to Le10Sport, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made a phone call to Newcastle United target Kalidou Koulibaly to convince him to switch from Napoli.

The report in the French media has claimed that Klopp called the Napoli central defender to explains his plans regarding him at Liverpool.

It has been claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in securing the services of the 28-year-old centre-back, and that the prospective new owners of Newcastle have already offered him a contract worth €12 million (£10.78 million) a season.

However, according to the report, the centre-back wants to play for a Champions League club and prefers playing in the Premier League.

The Sun has claimed that Saudi Arabia’s PIF are on the verge of buying Newcastle from current owner Mike Ashley.

Liverpool over Newcastle United

While Newcastle are an established club in the Premier League and could be achieving great things in the future once the takeover goes through, Liverpool are certainly more appealing to Koulibaly than the Magpies.

After all, the Reds won the Champions League last season and are on the verge of clinching the Premier League table this campaign.
