Jean-Kevin Augustin’s season at Leeds United could be over, according to a report.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that the Championship leaders are assessing a ‘fresh injury’ to the French striker to determine whether he can play a part in the rest of the 2019-20 campaign.
Augustin joined Leeds on a half-season loan from Leipzig in what was considered a major coup for the Elland Road club in January.
But a hamstring injury has limited the 22-year-old to just 48 minutes of Championship football since arriving in West Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that Augustin had told staff at Leeds that he felt much fitter in comparison to when he first joined.
But this could be a big setback, as The YEP add that the Whites’ medical staff are checking to see if it’s a new injury or related to his previous hamstring problem.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have a seven-point cushion in the automatic promotion spots and a fit-and-firing Augustin would’ve represented an extra string to the Argentine’s bow during the run-in, as they aim to confirm Premier League promotion.
Patrick Bamford, who has been spearheading United’s attack virtually all season long, had been blowing hot and cold for Leeds prior to the season being suspended.
Bielsa’s side resume their promotion bid on June 21 with a trip to Cardiff City.
