The Telegraph report that Harry Kane had been hoping for “significant” additions in the January window at Tottenham – and will have been in agreement with Antonio Conte’s recent comments about their activity.

Conte spoke openly to Sky Sport Italia, stating he was both surprised and frustrated to see four first-team players – in Gio Lo Celso, Dele Alli, Bryan Gil and Tanguy Ndombele – leave, with only two players coming in.

The Italian gaffer is renowned for signing players that instantly improve the squad, but is now seemingly aware that Fabio Paratici is looking to build Spurs for the future. Dejan Kulusevski is 21, and Rodrigo Bentancur is 24.

Clearly, Conte is frustrated with work done in January and while it might improve in the summer – there are concerns that he could go if top-four is not achieved. Kane was also hoping for more activity last month.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law writes: “Kane is likely to have been nodding along in agreement if he watched his head coach’s interview. Kane, like Conte, had been hoping for significant additions during January.”

Kane stance on January: Could striker leave Tottenham in summer?

Kane was close to leaving last summer. Manchester City made offers that were close to Daniel Levy’s price tag, but after a gentleman’s agreement, he stayed. Surely, Spurs should do everything to keep him happy?

The same should be said for Conte. But after a disappointing January, will Conte and Kane stick around to see how the summer window will go? It might literally depend on whether Spurs finish in the top four.
