It’s safe to say that Gareth Bale has really come to life since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The Portuguese coach only ever used Bale sparingly but since he has been axed, the Tottenham loanee has been dazzling in a big way.
In three Premier League games under Spurs caretaker manager Ryan Mason, the Real Madrid-owned attacker has netted four goals – including a hat-trick last weekend.
Considering he only managed five Premier League goals all season under Mourinho prior to this, it’s safe to say that Mason has helped the player get his groove back and a lot of Lilywhites fans are desperate to see him stay in North London.
For a long time it was reported that Tottenham had the option of a second season-long loan but according to AS, that isn’t true.
The Spanish publication reports that if Spurs want to keep him, Daniel Levy will have to re-negotiate the deal with Real.
The report adds that Bale, at this moment in time, is planning to go back to Madrid and sees himself playing in their first team next season, with his family still residing in the Spanish capital.
No doubt a lot of Lilywhites fans would love to see him stay, but there’s a huge financial side to consider.
Tottenham are still paying half of his £600,000-a-week salary and with Champions League revenue looking unlikely next season, is the juice worth the squeeze?
Yes, he’s dazzling under Mason, but the 29-year-old isn’t going to be in charge next season. Somebody else will be and unless there’s an expectation that Bale would thrive under Mourinho’s long-term replacement, they should be cautious.
