Well, it looks like Newcastle United have found their next manager.
A few weeks after sacking Steve Bruce, Newcastle are reportedly set to appoint Eddie Howe at St James’s Park.
According to The Telegraph, Howe has been offered a two-and-a-half year deal and has accepted on a provisional basis.
This comes after the Magpies’ shock at Unai Emery snubbing them in midweek, despite the deal to bring him in from Villarreal looking like a formality at one stage.
And The Telegraph has reported that Howe has zero hang-ups about Emery being ahead him in the pecking order.
With the Spaniard clearly being Newcastle’s first choice, you could forgive a second-choice candidate if his ego had suffered.
But the 43-year-old seemingly is ‘not upset’ and is willing to take the role in the North East all the same.
Crucial
The reports add that this is potentially crucial – and it is.
With Emery and Paulo Fonseca off the table, and Antonio Conte at Tottenham, Newcastle would be all out of options if Howe decided that he didn’t like how the former Arsenal boss was ahead of him in the queue.
But thankfully for the Magpies, he doesn’t care and now he can begin plotting the club’s escape from the relegation zone.
Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League table and six points adrift of safety.
