According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond has backed manager Neil Lennon to stay at the club despite the defeat to Rangers at Ibrox at the weekend.
Celtic suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox this past Saturday and are now as many as 19 points behind the Gers in second place the Scottish Premiership table, although they do have three games in hand.
However, according to the report in The Scottish Sun, Desmond and chief executive Peter Lawwell will keep Lennon in charge of the team until the summer of 2021.
The report has claimed that Desmond saw enough in the Hoops’ performance against the Gers to ‘believe Lennon is sufficiently reviving the team’.
Sticking with Neil Lennon
Celtic are having a torrid season, and there is a very good chance that they will not win the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th year in a row.
The Hoops have been knocked out of the Europa League and the Scottish League Cup as well.
However, Lennon is a very experienced manager who has been a huge success at Celtic, and it would make sense for the club’s chiefs to give him time and see if he can revive the team.
