Potential Newcastle United owner Henry Mauriss has been told to stump up 5% of his overall offer for the club as a deposit, according to the Chronicle.

Mauriss has reportedly submitted a £350 million bid for Newcastle, as he looks to rival the Saudi-based consortium for ownership of the North East club.

Newcastle now want Mauriss to prove he is serious and he has reportedly been told that he needs to put up a 5% deposit up-front.

That is no small sum of money, with Mauriss’s bid said to stand at £350 million.

The latest news provides yet another twist in what has been a prolonged takeover saga for Newcastle.

The Magpies have been waiting for a potential buy-out to go through for months now, but the Saudi-group’s bid appears to have stalled.

The Premier League still have not green lighted Newcastle’s potential owners, and Mauriss appears to have sensed an opportunity now.

Mauriss is CEO of Clear TV in the United States and Sky claim he wants his takeover to be completed before next season starts.
