Mikel Arteta has convinced Folarin Balogun he has a future at Arsenal with the out-of-contract striker expected to reject offers from elsewhere and stay at the Emirates, as reported by the Daily Mail.
After months of speculation, it seems there has been a breakthrough at last.
Despite his lack of first-team opportunities in 2020/21, there has never been any doubt about Arsenal’s desire to retain the services of one of the most exciting teenage strikers in English football.
But, with Balogun due to become a free agent in July, it looked as though the Gunners were fighting a losing battle.
A host of Bundesliga clubs have been sniffing around while, according to The Athletic in December, Premier League rivals Liverpool plan to sign the New York-born powerhouse at the end of the campaign.
And, one week after their humbling 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s side, Arsenal can at least take some measure of revenge on the Merseyside giants.
Because, according to The Mail, the 19-year-old won’t be swapping the Emirates for Anfield after being “convinced” of his future at Arsenal by Arteta.
“His progression and the use of the time he’s had with us has been incredible. He will keep having chances while he’s with us,” the former Manchester City coach told Arsenal’s website a few months ago.
Balogun has made only five first-team appearances this season but, with his future seemingly secure, expect more opportunities to come his way.
