Everton’s players are said to have been left in shock after the news that Carlo Ancelotti had departed by the Daily Mail.

Ancelotti left Everton for Real Madrid yesterday in a move which nobody had predicted.

And it seems that the Toffees players were equally as dumbfounded by the news as the supporters.

Ancelotti’s potential departure had completely blindsided Everton’s squad, who were fully expecting him to be in charge at the start of pre-season.

The Mail say that after Everton’s defeat against Manchester City on the final day Ancelotti had simply said to the players that he would be in touch over the summer, and for them to enjoy their time off.

Shock all round and where next?

There had been no inclination that he was thinking about leaving at that stage.

Ancelotti’s departure has thrown up question marks over some Everton players’ futures.

The likes of James Rodriguez and Allan were attracted to the club because of Ancelotti, and without the Italian boss around, staying may look less appealing.

It is unlikely to become clear for some time where Everton’s players futures now lie after his departure though, as the news sinks in for the squad over the coming days.
